As the automation revolution took hold across manufacturing, agricultural, and entertainment industries, an insatiable demand for computational power pressured the corporations to turn to a cheap and readily available source of data processing: the human brain.

The unemployed masses have become cogs in the global data network processing critical data for everything from automated water purifiers to toaster ovens while the ruling elite enjoy fantasy holographic games and expansive private estates. All is calm in paradise until a cult begins sewing the seeds of discontent among the huddled masses.
